Yunus delivers speech to sell out crowd.

Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, known around the world for his innovations in microcredit and social enterprise, was a special guest of the Merrick School of Business on April 20, when he spoke to a sellout crowd at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.

The event kicked off what is expected to be a series of scintillating discussions labeled the Dean's Speaker Series, in which Dean Darlene Smith identifies a vital issue and selects a highly respected lecturer to lend his or her insights. Yunus, the 2006 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, discussed the power of lending to move entire societies forward.

Joseph Cooper (left) received award from President Robert Bogomolny The entrepreneurial spirit has prevailed at the University of Baltimore since its founding in 1925, when a group of Baltimore civic leaders launched the business and law schools so that working adults could obtain a degree part-time and at a low cost. The University celebrates the entrepreneur annually at the Distinguished Entrepreneur Awards ceremony.
