Faculty Notes

Merrick School of Business faculty are busily teaching, publishing and providing outreach to the community. Here are some highlights from the last few months.

Over the last three months, Professor of Management Veena Adlakha published the following articles in prominent journals:Christine Nielsen, professor of international business and strategy, was appointed president of a nonprofit, New Pathways to Enterprise, that guides Filipino women through the entrepreneurial process from business idea generation through business start-up.

Jaya Singhal
, professor of decision science, was appointed executive editor of the Productions and Operations Journal, a “top” journal ranked by both Business Week and Financial Times.

Frank van Vliet
 , executive in residence, marketing was appointed to the board of the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) for a three-year term. He also was asked to serve on the board of CUPs,  a Baltimore-based nonprofit coffeehouse that seeks to employ at risk youth and young adults and serve at-risk communities.

Associate Professor, Jan Williams has been selected to serve on the American Accounting Association Mid-Atlantic Region Steering Committee. Also a paper she co-authored entitled, “Long-Run Stock Returns and Abnormal Accruals of Private Issuers: Are They Different from Public Issuers?” was accepted for publication in the Journal of Accounting and Finance.

Associate Professor of Finance C. Jerry Yu, was appointed department chair of the Department of Finance and Economics as of July 1, 2013.
