2012-13 Academic Achievement Awards

We are proud to present our students who are among the highest achieving in the Merrick School of Business, either in their academic program or their discipline. The selection process was conducted by faculty in each department. These students are recognized their academic strengths and work as scholars.

Dean’s Award
This award is presented to the top undergraduate Merrick School of Business student who demonstrates high academic achievement, leadership and service.

David M. Pearl, B.S. ’12 Major: International Business
David Pearl has accumulated an impressive list of accomplishments while completing his degree at UB. He graduated summa cum laude and achieved Dean’s List high honors twice, as well retaining Dean’s List status for all other semesters. David graduated from the Helen P. Denit Honors program and his final honors project grew out of a term paper from a Social Media Marketing class. He expanded his paper into an extensive honors project — a marketing plan for his current employer — several parts of which his employer has subsequently implemented. Not only did Pearl excel academically at UB, he also found time to give back to the UB community. He contributed to the redesign of the University’s new web site through roundtable discussions and by being a member of an eye tracking study. He participated in the student note taking program for the Center of Educational Access and was involved in the Food and Faculty series.  Pearl is a volunteer with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and has helped the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with several fundraising events. This year he has committed to raising a minimum of $1,900 by completing the Seagull Century with LLS’s Team in Training.

“In many ways, David Pearl sets the Merrick standard for achievement in learning and positivity in life,” said Dean Darlene Smith. “He is a more than worthy recipient of the Dean’s Award, and I wish him all the success in the world.”
