Go Daddy Founder Parsons Returns to Alma Mater for Talk

Go Daddy Executive Chairman and Founder Bob Parsons, B.S. '75, D.H.L. '08, returned to his alma mater last November to deliver a talk to University of Baltimore students who represent the next generation of digital designers, writers, leaders, scholars, innovators and entrepreneurs. The lecture was part of Parsons's $1 million donation to the University to establish a new professorship specializing in digital communication—a burgeoning field that brings together computer science, graphic design, entrepreneurship and related skills across several sectors of the 21st century global economy.

"It's critical in this day and age," Parsons said of this field during an interview with the Baltimore Sun. "The Internet has changed everything. We expect to know everything instantly. If you don't understand digital communication, you're at a disadvantage."

Parsons grew up in Baltimore and graduated magna cum laude from UB. He later founded Parsons Technology, which he sold to Intuit. He then created GoDaddy.com and built it into the world's largest Web hosting provider and domain name registrar.

Parsons will continue to provide lectures, either on campus or in a virtual environment, to share his expertise in the areas of digital life, online marketing and entrepreneurship.
