Fifteen Years and Counting: University of Baltimore Alumni Continue to Lead the Area's Top 25 Largest Accounting Firms
Merrick School of Business Graduates Outpace Other Schools' Alumni by Considerable Margins

Number 15

Every year since the dawn of the new century—and arguably, for many years prior to that, before the statistic was even available—the University of Baltimore has produced the largest number of graduates who go on to top-level positions in the Baltimore region's largest accounting firms. UB alumni outpace their colleagues from other area schools in this endeavor, consistently leading in 10 or more of the 25 largest firms, year after year.

Merrick School Professors Honored for Founding a Global Professional Society and Its Premier Research Journal

Kalyan Singhal

Twin achievements by Merrick School of Business faculty members—the founding of a leading global professional organization, Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), and its premier research journal, Production and Operations Management, 25 years ago and a quarter century of editing the journal that is globally recognized—were celebrated in May, when faculty and friends of the school joined their colleagues from around the world at a luncheon as part of the 26th annual POMS Conference in Washington, D.C.

Kalyan Singhal, professor of operations management and holder of the school’s Doris and Robert McCurdy Chair, and three other Merrick School of Business faculty—Veena Adlakha, professor of management, Tigineh Mersha, chair of the Department of Management and International Business and professor of management, and Jaya Singhal, professor of decision science, holder of the school's Frank Baker Chair and current executive editor of the Production and Operations Management journal– were feted for their contributions to the organization’s founding.

Merrick School of Business Maintains Prestigious AACSB Accreditation

AACSB Logo

The University of Baltimore's Merrick School of Business has maintained its educational  accreditation by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.

AACSB accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education, and has been earned by less than five percent of the world's business programs. Today, there are 727 business schools in 48 countries and territories that maintain AACSB accreditation.

"It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB accreditation," said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. "Business schools must not only meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty, and professional staff must make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students."

"Maintaining accreditation is strong affirmation that the Merrick School of Business is committed to delivering a quality and relevant business education," said Murray Dalziel, dean of the Merrick School of Business. "I applaud our faculty and staff for their dedication to our students. It is their commitment to uphold the AACSB’s standards of excellence that allows us to continue on our current trajectory."
